Abstract
This report presents a study of the auto-ignition of single droplets of liquid hydrocarbon fuels at pressures up to about 30 atm and at temperatures ranging from 400 to 700C. The purpose of this work was to further the development of models for ignition under Diesel and gas turbine engine conditions, and in particular to gather data to support chemical kinetic modelling of fuel ignition and combustion at high pressures in engines. The long-term goal of this research programme is to allow the ignition behaviour of Diesel fuels - in particular fuels from unconventional sources - to be predicted from their composition and other properties.
