Abstract
The report describes the solution properties and thermal characteristics of second generation branched glycidyl azide polymer (GAP). The GAP products obtained in different solvents have the same viscosity-molecular weight and fucntionality-molecular weight relationships. The properties of branched GAP synthesized without using any polyol in the reaction and the characteristics of the polymers prepared without cleaving agent are also reported. The differential thermal analysis (DTA) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) thermograms, the glass transition temperature (Tg) as well as the heats of combustion (delta Hc), formation (delta Hf) and decomposition (delta Hd) of branched GAP are also presented. The correlation between the vacuum thermal stability (VST) of the GAP product and the synthesis parameters is also discussed. The effects of stabilizers, additives and the purification procedure (extraction or water precipitation) on the properties of the GAP product are also investigated.
