Abstract
The purpose of this technical note is to present a new algorithm to obtain real-time information for electronic support measures for wideband, low probability of intercept radar and communication signals. This algorithm is the Cyclic Cross Correlation(CCC). It allows the detection, separation and characterization of spread spectrum signals having overlapped spectrum, the same carrier frequency and the same difference of time of arrival. An optoelectronic real-time implementation of the CCC for large bandwidth, spread spectrum signals was performed at the Defence Research Establishment Ottawa using an optical Time-Integrating Correlator (TIC). A description of the real-time optical implementation of the CCC with a TIC and the associated experimental results are presented. An assessment of the potential of this technique for application to radar and communication ESM is also included.
