Abstract
The phase of the project showed that acceptable application can be obtained through proper selection of rheology additives and solvent balance formulation. However, commercial high solids alkyd resins, while meeting physical property requirements, cannot produce optimal application properties at or below the required VOC level. Synthesis of alkyd resins using the novel approaches explored in this program showed promise, although further development work is required to produce a resin high enough in solids that optimization of application properties does not produce a coating exceeding the VOC target.
