Abstract
Two aspects of problems encountered in the interpretation of remotely sensed Arctic imagery have been examined. These are the environmental factors leading to degradation of imagery and possible machine techniques which could aid in the processing of imagery. Literature surveys in both areas have shown gaps and have resulted in specific suggestions for further work. These are discussed in the paper.
