Abstract
The effect on radiation protection in mice of the position of the hydroxyl group and the number of carbon atoms between the sulfur atom and the amino group in certain S-(-aminohydroxyalkyl) dilithium phosphorothioates and thiosulfuric acids was investigated. Increasing the number of carbon atoms from 3 to 4 or 5, or changing the hydroxyl group from the 2-position greatly decreased the protective activity as assessed by seven- and thirty-day survival studies in mice. The thiosulfuric acids were less active than the phosphorothioates.
