Abstract
A brief description of theory required for synthesis of selected electronic bands in OH and O2 is given. The nature of the electronic transitions, rotational branch structure and rotational line strengths are discussed and a few examples of experimental and synthetic band envelopes are shown. Branch structure of unobserved electronic and vibration-rotation transitions in oxygen are also shown, and wavelengths for some such forbidden lines are calculated.
