Abstract
The Fourier transforms of NMR Spectra are studied as an approach to the detection of spectral features obscured in background noise. Accumulation of scans by setting the spectrometer to repeat and add is shown to improve the signal-to-noise ratio (spectral features) with respect to the noise according to the square root of the number of scans. A matched filter is proposed in a form for the detection of spectral energy (non-specific), and in a form for the detection of specific chemical compounds.
