Abstract
The phase of the research focused on the development of process technology; the development of moisture/water resistant materials; modifications to the cable assembly technology and the development of performance evaluation tests. Significant progress was made in the development of a semi-continuance slurry casting process for the fabrication of ceramic insulating felts and the laboratory pilot facility has been successfully used to produce felts up to 213 cm long. A thin interior polymeric wrap has been shown to provide effective mositure protection and with it the cable had excellent electrical performance in moist environments and withstood simulated fire exposure, i.e. up to 1000C flame for in excess of one hour without electrical failure.
