STABILITY OF LOW-LEVEL ISOTOPIC LIGHT SOURCES WITH TIME AND TEMPERATURE

Abstract
The report is divided into three sections. The first section deals with the stability of a NaI:T1:Ra light source with time at a constant temperature (+22oC). The decrease in light output was found to be 5.2% per year. The second section deals with the stability of the NaI:T1:Ra light source over a range of temperatures varying from +60oC to -20oC; the source showed negative temperature coefficients of -0.25% per oC and -0,6% per oC for temperatures from +60oC to 0oC and from 0oC to -22oC respectively. The third section deals with the stability of a DREO light source (14C - activated scintillating plastic) over a period of six years; this source showed a 2.7% per year loss of light output.
