Abstract
The computer program SMCA4 is developed for computation of ship motions, pressure distribution, sea loads and added resistance in waves in the frequency-domain. The code is written in Fortran 77 ANSI. The computation is based on the three-dimensional panel method using zero-speed Green's function with forward speed correction. The steady flow disturbance potential is considered and determined by the double-body flow. It is computed by the Hess-Smith method. The m-term effect on ship motion is considered and computed from integral equations, or alternatively using a simplified method in which the steady disturbance potential is neglected. The near-field pressure integration is employed to compute the sea loads and added resistance. In the code development, it is assumed that the ship is symmetrical about the longitudinal centerplane. The field points are located on the port side of the hull surface and the sources are distributed on both port and starboard sides of the hull surface. Input and output files, and examples are also presented and described in detail in this guide. Reference should be made to the Final Report, and Source Code Listing - both submitted separately with this User's Guide.
