Abstract
The AAU-19 counter-drum-pointer altimeter display is in current use with several military forces and is being installed in the fleets of several civil air carriers. The Canadian Forces adopted a modification of the display which involved a reduction in the drum window size to the same height as the counter window, and the addition of two static zeros to the right of the pivot point of the needle. The digit display on the drum changed from black on a grey ground to white on a black ground. This report considers these changes in the light of findings of published research and evaluations of altimeter display designs.
