Abstract
There are applications, including fast-neutron dosimetry, which require the use of thermoluminescent powders of very fine grain size. Several useful phosphors, based on CaSO4, are easily and cheaply made in the laboratory, with simple techniques. This note discusses the requirements in starting materials, apparatus and technique, and also describeo a phosphor preparation in detail. The technique yields particles in the range of 0 - 150 m in length. A particle separation method is described, which, together with manual grinding, gave particle groups of more uniform size, the finest being 3 - 5 m in length.
