Abstract
The purpose of the work was to determine the mechanisms of O2(1/DELTA g) and O2(1/bg/+) production in the 253.7 nm photolysis of ozone in the presence and the absence of oxygen, the quantum yields in O2(1/DELTA g) and O2(1/bg/+), and the relative rate constants for deactivation of O(1/D) and O2(1/bg/+) by atmospheric gases. It was determined that photolysis of ozone produces 02(1/DELTA g) directly; if this production has a unit quantum yield, the reaction between O(1/D) and O2 produces O2(1/bg/+) with an efficiency of 0.9. About one third of these O2(1/g/+) molecules are formed in the v=1 vibrational state.
