Abstract
Dense B4C specimens were fabricated by hot-pressing a fine B4C powder (particle size < 13 microns) at 5000 psi between 1700 and 2200 C. The densities and the modulus of rupture and of elasticity of these specimens were compared to those of specimens made from coarser powders. The influence of the rate of heating from room to hot-pressing temperature on the mechanical properties of B4C was also investigated. No significant influence was detected.
