TETRAFLUOROHYDRAZINE AS A SATURABLE ABSORBER OF CO2 LASER RADIATION

Abstract
Tetrafluorohydrazine (N2F4) was found to induce passive Q-switching in a continuous wave, CO2 laser oscillating on P and R branch transitions of the 10.6 micron system. The gas was also observed to force the laser to oscillate on P, then, at higher pressures, R branch lines of the 9.3 micron system. Tetrafluorohydrazine shows some promise as an urgent for the isolation of high energy CO2 amplifier sections.
