Abstract
The removal of two polluting gases SO2 and HC1 from a gaseous stream (by absorption into water) has been studied to provide information for the burning of mustard hydrolysis products at the DRES Thermal Destructor. Data on the rates of neutralizing reagent additions and stack deterioration were gathered. The process was also evaluated for transfer units in order to characterize the system. All the pilot plant results have been scaled-up to actual operating parameters for the Thermal Destructor.
