MEASUREMENTS OF THE AMPLITUDE SCINTILLATION IN A RANGEGATED PULSED CO2 LADAR IMAGING SYSTEM

Abstract
A rangegated pulsed TEA CO2 ladar system has been used to measure the random amplitude scintillation in the signal reflected from specular and diffuse targets located at ranges between 200 m and 6.4 km. Log- normal variances of the amplitude scintillation and estimates for the relative mean reflected intensity were obtained. The system was operated in a step-scanned mode to yield images of the amplitude variations over the surface of diffuse targets, and techniques to reduce the level of scintillation in a ladar imaging system are described.
