EFFECT OF ATROPINE UPON THE CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM DURING GD-INDUCED RESPIRATORY DEPRESSION

Abstract
The effects of atropine and clonazepam upon GD-induced respiratory depression we re investigated in monkeys. The EEG, heart rate, systemic blood pressure, intrac ranical pressure and respiratory rate were recorded following administration of GD. When severe dyspnea or apnea was evident, atropine or atropine and clonazepa m was administered by intravenous injection. The administration of clonazepam co ntrolled the seizure activity and convulsions, but failed to increase the heart rate or respiration. It was concluded that the cardiostimulatory effect of atrop ine was beneficial in reversing the GD-induced respiratory depression.
