Abstract
Three localities in the North Atlantic corresponding to tropical, midlatitude and subarctic conditions respectively have been chosen to compare the effects of atmospheric attenuation on target detection in th 3-5 mu m and the 8- 14 mu m bands using the atmospheric spectral transmittance obtained from the LOWTRAN II program.
