Abstract
The report presents the results of a literature review (Annex A) and an experimental program into the thermal sensitivity of energetic material. A number of factors likely to be of importance in modelling and testing sensitivity to hot fragment attack were identified. Foremost among these factors is the transfer of heat across material boundaries. A thermal conductivity apparatus was constructed to investigate thermal transfer coefficients to provide data both for modelling and for comparison with sensitivity tests. This appears to be functioning well. Also a thermal impact tester designed to provide and characterized using several materials currently in use or under development at DREV. A protocol for using the tester to determine sensitivity to hot fragment attack is included.
