Abstract
A model has been developed for the cost analysis of "substitute components". The term "substitute components" refers to any group of components in which technical relationships among the components allows interchangeability among some or all of them. (This happens frequently with electronic components.) The basis of the model is Wilson's Economic Order Quantity discounted price model. The essential idea of the model is to investigate the level of cost savings which might be achieved by comparing the different combinations of consolidating components to smaller groups. The model is applied to the cost analysis of semi-conductor devices and the results are discussed.
