Abstract
The main concern in the several large ATC automation programs which have been implemented has been the provision of information to the controller in a more accurate and more easily assimilable form. The aim was, if not to reduce the controller's workload, to at least keep it within acceptable limits. Experience with these systems to date is reviewed, and the conclusion reached that in few instances has this aim been achieved.
