Abstract
A new CF jerkin was developed to improve weight, bulk and comfort over past versions while maintaining adequate high-altitude protection. Laboratory trials were conducted to evaluate the physiological protection followed by a flight trial above 60,000 feet to qualify the ensemble. Results indicate protection is adequate, comfort is comparable to the normal CF flying suit and discomfort after cabin decompression does not compromise aircraft recovery to a safe altitude. Laboratory trials have indicated potential application of the method of protection and of the ensemble at altitudes up to 80,000 feet.
