Abstract
The report discusses the criteria for optimizing the sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio of fluxgate magnetometer. Included in the report are detailed discussions of core material and dimensions, coil windings and electronic circuitry, as well as selection of parameters for optimum performance. The accuracy within which the sensors of a gradiometer must be aligned is determined for use in the range clearance project at DRES. An error-compensated feedback system for multisensor magnetometers is described.
