Abstract
Ten young male subjects exercised at three prescribed work intensities on a treadmill and on a bicycle ergometer and the associated oxygen cost was measured. Two oxygen cost equations, one for treadmill running, the other for bicycle ergometry, were compared as to their accuracy for predicted work intensities. It was concluded, that for this specific group of subjects, equivalent work intensities derived from the two equations involve the same oxygen cost; therefore the equations can be used as training guides.
