Abstract
Hazard plotting is a simple graphical technique which may be used in quantifying equipment reliability. The technique was applied to the 75-ton Chiller Unit fitted onboard Improved St. Laurent class destroyers using data routinely collected by the Ship Maintenance Management Information System (SMMIS). It was found that the interpretation of the SMMIS data was not straightforward and suggestions are made concerning the data collection procedures. An overview of reliability analysis and the theory of hazard plotting is also presented as background.
