Abstract
The report describes R and D carried out at the Communications Research Centre and in Canadian Industry during the past 5 years to develop simple, inexpensive RTI systems that could be employed to improve communications from the trail and from remote camps by northern and native people. The research has culminated in the development and field trial of prototype systems which it is hoped will lead to design/manufacture of suitable equipment so that systems adapted to provide the kind of service desired by users are available for purchase. The report is intended to serve as an introduction to repeater remote control; to dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) tone signaling for both FM and SSB signaling systems; and to radio telephone interconnect (RTI) systems.
