DIFFERENT FORMS OF ALKALINE PHOSPHATASE ISOENZYME PRESENT IN BAKER'S YEAST

Abstract
Sub-cellular fractions obtained from sonically disrupted yeast cells gave various levels of alkaline phosphatase activities in the different fractions. Polyacrylamide gel disc electrophoresis revealed the presence of electrophoretically distinct forms of alkaline phosphatase activities. These activities were further characterized on the basis of their sensitivities to heat, urea and EDTA treatment. The study suggests the presence of more than one form of alkaline phosphatase isoenzyme in baker's yeast.
