Abstract
The Chief of Research and Development (CRAD) is responsible for the conduct and management of the R&D program in defence science and technology. The program represents about 98% of the Department of National Defence (DND)'s Science and Technology (S&T) activities. With a total 1995/96 budget of $192 Million and a staff of 1,207, which includes 750 scientists, engineers and technical staff, CRAD helps ensure that DND keeps abreast of current technology developments to maintain the effectiveness of the Canadian Forces (CF) and to avoid unpleasant surprises from potential opponents.
