Abstract
The literature pertaining to the problem of backache among helicopter aircrew is reviewed. Vibration of the helicopter and the posture of the operator are considered as possible causes of the discomfort. Of these causes, the posture and tasks of the pilot are considered to be more significant than vibration. Potential solutions are identified and discussed.
