Abstract
A series of tests to determine the overall effectiveness of the CH135 helicopter restraint system was performed on the HyGe crash simulator at the Impact Studies Facility at DCIEM. The thirteen impacts utilized a ruggedized, accurate, mock-up of a CH135 pilot's seat, and were conducted to investigate the dynamic behaviour of a new buckle, manufactured by Irvin Industries, as a possible replacement for the older buckle currently used in the CH135 helicopter. Also, the performance of the currently used MA-6 inertia lock reel retractor in both its "automatic" and "locked" modes of operation was studied in simulated impacts for a wide variety of crash severities.
