Abstract
Mod-METRIC is a well known sparing model used most often for aircraft systems. In this study, its validity is assessed for naval applications where batching of failures is more pronounced. A simulation was used for various mission lengths. The length of time spent in home port between missions has a significant impact on the optimal composition of spares. This aspect is not captured by Mod-METRIC. The batching effects on ship availability, delay, and unfilled requests are also discussed.
