Abstract
General visibility requirements were reviewed in the horizontal and vertical fields of view for destroyer bridges. These requirements were related to direct observations and measurements made on board the DDH280 class destroyers. Specific deficiencies were established and recommendations for improvement were developed. Computer simulation of existing and proposed bridge layouts were utilized to establish optimum position for primary workstations and to support analysis of the DDH280 bridge. Particular attention was paid to the placement of pelori within the bridge to ensure that good overall visibility was available for taking visual bearings.
