MULTITEMPERATURE PYROLYSIS CHROMATOGRAPHY FOR THE IDENTIFICATION OF ELASTOMERIC MATERIALS

Abstract
The feasibility of using a single column multitemperature pyrolysis gas chromatographic (GC) approach, to provide for an unambiguous identification of eight classes of frequently encountered elastomers, was investigated. Pyrograms of these eight classes of standard elastomers were obtained at three pyrolysis temperatures. The identification of an unknown elastomer was accomplished by comparison of the times and relative intensities of the major peaks inthe pyrograms generated at the three pyrolysis temperatures.
