PERFORMANCE OF FREQUENCY-HOPPED M-ARY FSK IN THE PRESENCE OF PHASE JITTER

Abstract
As the hopping rate and the frequency of operation are increased in a spread spectrum satellite communication system using noncoherent Frequency-hopped Frequency Shift keying transmission, imperfections or limitations in the system implementation can cause performance degradation. A study of the effect on performance of one such degradation, phase jitter, is carried out. To make the analysis possible, a small angle approximation to the angular jitter is required. General results on the distribution of the output of the individual energy detectors for Gaussian phase jitter, are presented. Then two cases are analyzed in detail. First, results for a white or flat jitter spectrum are obtained. Then performance for a low frequency jitter spectrum is analyzed.
