Abstract
The report provides a survey of the current state of the art in predicting the effects of structural modifications on the dynamic response of structures. A literature review reveals three different basic analytical formulations: the method of eigenvalue modification, the modal perturbation or sensitivity approach, and the modal condensation method. These methods are described there in detail. The differences between the methods are discussed in relation to the size and type of modification under consideration. Also an assessment of the commercially available programs is made.
