Abstract
The document describes the characteristics of the DREV fully instrumented laboratory used for studying impact and penetration phenomena under controlled conditions. A two-stage light-gas gun is used to launch kilogram-class projectiles at velocities up to 5 km/s. Projectiles with fragile configurations can also be launched at velocities up to 1.5 km/s with accelerations less than 10,000 g sub n. The impact chamber is equipped with a sabot catcher and a target holder adaptable to various arrangements. The flash X-ray technique is used to record projectile position, attitude and velocity.
