Abstract
The behaviour of fatigue crack propagation rates was studied on the CT-type, HY-80 steel plate specimens. The crack length was determined from the specimen compliance, using the clip-on gage. Testing was done at constant stress intensity factor range delta K, of 18, 27, and 45 KSI square root in, cyclic frequency of 0.3 Hz and the stress ratio R = 0.1. Test environments included air and natural seawater. The seawater tests were done at the open circuit potential of the steel and at zinc potential (-1.08 V).
