Abstract
The report provides a detailed description of the hardware and software of a special purpose interface between a DEC PDP-11/23 microcomputer and two Varian VIW-2302 cesium vapour magnetometers. The interface, which is not commercially available, has been used in two different magnetic data collection systems. One is a facility which measures and stores magnetostatic signatures of ferrous objects as a function of position and allows on-line analysis of the data by a distant computer. The other is a self-contained, vehicle portable system which allows collection of magnetostatic data in remote locations. Both systems are currently being used to develop methods of detecting and identifying buried ferrous ordnance. The interface may be used for any DEC LSI 11 microcomputer controlled application of a Varian cesium vapour magnetometer.
