Abstract
One of the important tasks of the Service Projects Unit at DREA is the monitoring of operational sonobuoys by studying their response to open ocean conditions. To analyze the acoustic output from a variety of sonobuoys with different pre-whitening response curves along with the output from modified buoys transmitting non-acoustic data, a highly flexible package of computer programs has been written. Using a controlling program called FFT8, the operator may specify a series of options to produce power spectral density plots in several useful formats. In addition, information from sonobuoys modified to measure hydrophone depth can also be plotted. The program can process incoming live data, for example from sonobuoy receivers, or analyze information stored on analog magnetic tape and played back at accelerated tape speeds.
