ON FREQUENCY OFFSETS IN WINDOWED RECEPTION ON FREQUENCY DEHOPPED M-ARY FSK SIGNALS FOR MULTI-USER SYSTEMS

Abstract
Frequency offsets in the received signals can degrade the performance of a frequency hopping spread spectrum communication system. To compensate for this degradation, a windowed receiver is used. This will supress adjacent user interference with a corresponding loss in signal-to-noise ratio. It is then necessary to find out how the system performance will change with the variation of the window parameter. Based on a simple model for multi-user power levels, we find the optimal Kaiser window to be incorporated into the receiver for M-ary FSK modulation. The performance of a maximum likelihood receiver and a threshold detection receiver are also compared. The latter has inferior error performance but is somewhat less complex than the former.
