Abstract
Research and development studies are proposed for future aerial target systems (late 1980's and 1990's), for use by the Canadian Forces (Air) to train pilots in the tactics of aerial gunnery and missile firing based on currently perceived requirements. Current tasking for an air-to-air gunnery towed target for use with CF-18 and CF-5 aircraft is described. A summary of the basic requirements for in-house air-to-air missile firings are outlined for future long term consideration by CF(Air) considering the non-availability of foreign test ranges.
