Abstract
The determination of carboxyhaemoglobin (COHb) in blood using a gas chromatographic procedure has been carried out at DCIEM for many years. However, requirements for accurate determination of blood COHb over the range of 0.5 vol% to 20.0 vol% have pointed to the need for a critical examination of the current method for blood COHb determination using a gas chromatography. Areas of concern include the method of standardization, variability at each stage of the analysis and whether alternative standardization procedures are available. These factors are examined in the current study.
