Abstract
Fracture toughness measurements have been made on two types of 155-mm artillery projectiles - XC10 (CAN) and M795 (US) - using ASTM Standard Test Method E399-83. From preliminary analysis of the results, based on linear elastic fracture mechanics, the critical flaw size for each projectile has been evaluated. The XC10 projectile has shown greater toughness and can thus tolerate larger flaw sizes.
