Abstract
The purpose of the project was to fabricate a line-selective reflector-coupler for a waveguide CO2 laser. The theory necessary to carry out such designs is discussed, and several designs are presented and the characteristics analyzed. An optical thickness monitor to control the thin film deposition is described. A general computer program to analyse multilayer thin-film optical filters was developed and used to calculate the reflectance and transmittance of such filters. A number of filters were fabricated and tested. In particular, a pair that constituted a line-selective coupler and two polarizing mirrors were submitted to and tested by the DREV scientific authority for this project.
