Abstract
Integrated Project Support Environments (IPSE) are meant to provide an integrated set of support tools within a development framework to assist in all facets of system development. This includes activities such as specifications, requirements, design, configuration management, implementation and maintenance. This paper is a survey and a preliminary evaluation of some current and proposed IPSEs. The survey does not claim to be exhaustive but every effort was made to be as thorough as possible in scanning recent developments in IPSEs over the past five or six years. The preliminary evaluation was performed within the framework of the System Engineering Model (SEM) and the Tool Evaluation Model (TEM) defined by the NATO Research Study Group RSG14 of AC/243, Panel III, (now RSG1 of AC/243, Panel XI). These models are further elaborated in this paper.
