Abstract
The document is intended to stimulate technical and administrative discussion among interested parties concerned with the implementation of a network between the Defence Research Establishments (DRENET). The design proposes to use the US DoD/DARPA ARPANET protocol (TCP/IP) layered upon a public packet switching X.25 data network. This design offers simplicity and economy through the use of readily available protocol implementations (commercial software) and easily accessible public network services. Use of the TCP/IP protocol suite ensures ARPANET interoperability.
