Abstract
The military use of biological agents is a relative new threat to military field forces and civilian populations. Until recently, biological weapons technologies were the sole dominion of the super powers. However, the world-wide growth and spread of biotechnology is quickly expanding the availability of such weapons. The potential use of biological weapons against Allied Forces in the Gulf War underlined the need for reliable means of detecting and identifying these invisible and potentially lethal threats. The CIBADS Concept Demonstrator Project was developed within the context of Canada's commitments to a joint Canada, United Kingdom, and United States Memorandum of Understanding for the co-operative development of bio-chemical detection and identification technologies through the demonstration and validation phases.
