- Abstract
- This is an overview of the calculation of the electric and magnetic fields of a horizontal electric dipole (HED) source submerged in deep sea water (i.e. a conducting half space). Maxwell's equations are solved for a point HED source and complete quasistatic expressions for the field components are listed. The analytic solution for the fields in the water is presented in a form without singularities. A method is given for increasing the speed of numerical evaluation of the integrals appearing in the exact expression for the fields. Approximate solutions for the fields are listed in the last section, and the exact quasistatic results are compared with the approximate solutions.
